Resource Discovery builds a topic model of your interests from the documents you read, the searches you execute, and the web resources you tag with social bookmarking tools.

Resource Discovery pinpoints the sources of data that contain the knowledge that matches your interests. Those sources could be users in your social network, blogs, online news articles, search results, or anything that generates textual information.

Resource Discovery builds a topic model of your interests from the documents you read, the searches you execute, and the web resources you tag with social bookmarking tools. Your user model is uniquely tailored to the collection you read and the queries you execute.

Unlike other user modeling products, Resource Discovery semantically expands your model by building ontology concepts and relations from your recently used documents.

One application of Resource Discovery is to build a dynamic model of your current interests from the results of your PowerAnswer™ questions.

In the example below, the user is interested in countries supplying weapons to Hezbollah. Resource Discovery examines the documents returned as answers to their question, generates an ontology of topics, and then constructs a dynamic user model which is used to find other people in the user's community that have similar interests. The tag cloud is used to represent the level of interest of each person in the active community.

Resource Discovery and topic generation are services with standard APIs that can be plugged into other applications. The tag cloud is one example of representing community interest.

Each user in the community has information about the bookmarks they have used, the users recommended to them, and the tags and documents recommended to them. All this information can be made browseable by the other community users so they can search through the tags and documents of users recommended to them.

Resource Discovery makes your community network more than a way to communicate with other users, but also a powerful means for sharing resources in the community by pushing information of interest.
