PowerAnswer is a state-of-the-art award winning question answering system that allows users to ask questions in natural language form in English and provides answers to these questions by searching a large volume of documents.
PowerAnswer includes three supporting components: PowerAnalytics, Document Manager, and System Manager. PowerAnalytics records questions and collects usage statistics. Document Manager ensures the indexed collection used by PowerAnswer is kept up-to-date on a daily basis. System Manager allows for administrative control of the system, allowing users to change parameters and customize other aspects of the system, such as the user interface. The PowerAnswer system first processes the question to understand its intent, then forms a query and searches over the set of documents to identify potential paragraphs that may contain the answer, then thoroughly processes these paragraphs to find the most relevant answer to the question.
PowerAnswer is not restricted to searching over English documents. Using machine translation technology the system can provide answers extracted from both English and foreign language documents, such as Spanish, French, and Chinese.
PowerAnswer can be specialized to operate in a narrow domain to answer questions with high accuracy. This is done with the help of ontologies built specifically in their domains by Lymba's Jaguar Ontology Tool. Ontologies consist of structured, domain specific knowledge.
